Nothing earth shattering here, but I was just happy to be getting my shovel in the ground in late December! The shoe buckle is one of the best I have found. No ID on the copper unfortunately. You can't read it in the photo but the inscription on that rectangular brass plate reads:

John Gale
Maker
South Hampton, NH

I found it in a field next to a 1700's farm house. It looks like it may have come off of some horse tack or farm equipment....I'm researching the name to see what I can come up with.

Happy New Year everyone!

Very nice looking shoe buckle,,, like the scales on that knife too. It looks bent, is it real stag or plastic?

The way it's bent makes me think plastic. I dug around on Kent knives,, some good reading,,,,, looks like maybe dated 1930's to 50's.

WOW, that buckle is fantastic. My sister owns a horse farm in South Hampton, NH, were you near there when you found the brass item?

No, I actually found it in Andover, MA. I've pinged a few libraries and historical societies from that town and some surrounding ones and they are investigating for me. There was a John W. Gale that lived in that area in the 1880's but not sure if that is a hit or not.
