Hy guys just wanted to check in and introduce myself. I've been detecting for about a year and a half. I really enjoy the hobby on my days off from the firehouse. Thanks for putting together a forum where I can talk metal, a lot of people think I'm kinda weird for the hobby that I love so much:yes:

Welcome from western MA. If you're talking detecting nobody here is gonna think your weird. What type of detector you using? Feel free to throw up some of your finds (we love pictures). Looking forward to your future finds.

I'm currently swinging a Garrett AT Gold. But I've recently got an offer to trade it for a xterra 705. I just don't know. It's up in the air. Any advice?

Not very familiar with the xterra 705 but have heard great things about the AT Gold and the At Pro. I know that all three machines are used by members on this forum. Have you checked out youtube videos on the detectors?
Some one on here will chime in with some better advise.

yeah I sure have read up on the 705 quit a bit. Not too many videos showing it in action. I've heard everything from the 705 being an entry level machine to the recovery being really slow on it?

Welcome to the forum from SE Wisconsin. It nice to welcome a brother Fire Fighter and yes my crew also thinks I'm a little weird. They are all into fishing and hunting (animals) and when I mention I'm going hunting they perk up but then they realize it's just Jeff talking about hunting for metal, LOL. Where are you locate? I'm in a suburb of Milwaukee and have been on the job 27 years this month.

Hello Fireman109 , welcome to the forum. I would specify what you are generally after when your out detecting?? coins , jewelry or relics?? I personally think the at gold is a much better machine then the minelab in many ways . glad you found us here !

Thanks Dan! Glad to be here. Been apart of other forums but just didn't work out. Looks like a great place yall have here. Your other questions about what I hunt coins jewelry relics? That would be all three for me. I love to find them all. Coins the most though. I've always had garretts 350, AT PRO, and now the Gold. I guess you just wonder sometimes is there something more out there?

the gold should have a faster processor or recovery then the 705 and is probably better in more mineralized soil too and down in your area it would help with that red clay that can be troublesome. probably the reason someone wanted to trade you machines.

Hey thanks skamaniac!! I also respect what you have done for this country and your community. I know firefighters that can't stand law enforcementand I know cops who can't stand firefighters. I never really understood it at all. We are all on the same team, just have different roles! Upmost respect for you sir!!

Hello and welcome from Northern Illinois. I used to fish and hunt in my younger years. Something about pulling old stuff out of the ground, it just seems more rewarding.

I was truly the exact same Don. Used to do it all... Really big into hunting and fishing but something just clicked. Something about holding history in your hands and having the thought that your holding something somebody else held when the world was a so much simpler place. Nothing like it in the world

Welcome Fireman! Did I see you had an Explorer 2 to sell? Minelabs turn out to be not to your liking? I hope you enjoy the forum!
