Got out for a couple hours this morning. Hit a cellar hole not more than 10 minutes from my house. I learned to metal detect at this site and squeezed about all I could from it over the years. The detecting hordes found it too so it has been hit pretty hard. Someone had been there within the last few weeks judging from the number of open holes. The Deus is still impressing me with its ability to find masked items. The large flat button was found next to the iron spoon bowl. A brass washer attached to a piece of iron sounded pretty good too. I got to see some of the Deus’s raw power too. The smaller tombac was dug at a full 9 inches. The brass tube was pretty deep also.

The tongue and chape opened my eyes to the Deus’s depth potential. I had been flipping plugs back into holes left by the last person to detect there. On one hole as I pushed the old plug into the hole with my coil I got a decent but faint signal. I stuck my hand into the hole and removed all the loose dirt. Rescanned the hole and sure enough it was still there. Dug out another 2 inches, still there. Dug another 2 inches and pulled out the chape and tongue. It was a full 10 inches below the surface and about 4 inches below that the hole the prior detectorist had dug. I’m guessing they had an initial faint signal, dug a plug then lost the signal. I’ve had that happen before but know enough to keep digging.

Another neat thing with the Deus is that you can run with hardly any discrimination, but keep the small iron pretty quiet if you choose to. The big iron can still sound sweet even when scanned from different angles. The Deus has some features to help positively ID that sweet sounding iron, but it is still hard NOT to dig it. Just old habits I guess. Next time out, after I fire the Deus up, I am putting the controller in my pocket and force myself to rely on just tones.

You must be very pleased with the performance of the Deus. As you stated, you have pounded that site as have others and you still got some keepers....:groovy:.
