I got out Wednesday for an hour to a 2 acre woods I've been pounding for close to 2 years. Low and behold, I pull out an 1864 2 cent piece. Only coin I found. Next day I go to check out a site for a club hunt 80 miles away. What to thing pops out of the ground first thing? Yes, another 1864 2 cent piece. Although they were on different days and 80 miles apart, I pulled 2 consecutive 2 cent pieces out of the ground. Found my first 2 center 35 years ago and didn't find another until last year. Since then I've found five including my last coin out of the ground before it froze up. Considering what they looked like coming out of the ground, these cleaned up well, especially the one on the left.

Wow, that's amazing! I love Two-Cent Pieces! (In case you didn't know.) :thumbsup01:

The one on the left looks really good. In fact, it looks like it would clean up even better with a toothpick.

:congrats:

sometimes this hobby is very unpredictable Don  one of the reasons I like it so much . so any "small motto" varieties?? love to see them close up when you get them cleaned up a bit . congrats :clapping:

Unfortunately they are both large motto varieties. They won't clean up much better than they are. Still fun to find.

Thawed is the word. Thank God! We've had a tough winter. It's nice to be out detecting again. BTW, I love that CT as your avatar.

Thanks Don. I love my CT's! Sure was a bad winter. Heard on the local news that coyotes went after a pit bull as they were hungry.

Congrats Don ! First I could not believe it when you texted me the picture of the first 2 center on April Fools Day... Then you texted me a picture of the second one on April 2nd !!! "Pushing the joke a little too far" I told myself... I know your tricks now ! ... But I also know you're pretty successful when it comes to detecting. ;) You did a nice job on the cleaning !

It's an unpredictable hobby to be sure. Having a span of 35 years between the 2 centers and then finding all the others in such a short time...amazing.

Great coins, Incredibke that they were found 80 miles apart! There is a high number of these being found right now, I wonder what's up with that! HH!

Not sure why they are coming up. One came up at my club hunt last Saturday and I ran into someone at a park who had just pulled one the week before. All I seem to be seeing are ones dated 1864.
