Had a great time at the Diggin in New England event a couple days ago. Amazing how many detectorists showed up (I think a little over 130). Very well organized. Well I didn't find a lot, but I did manage to be lucky enough to put my coil over the right spot :detecting: and pulled my oldest coin ever- a 1723 Woods Hibernia.:yahoo:This beats my previous oldest dated coin by 152 years. I was surprised at the condition of this coin- any other coins I ever pulled out of a farm field were corroded beyond recognition. Lady Luck was on my side I guess, as I was also quite lucky in the raffle drawings. My numbers were drawn 5 times in the first raffle. I picked a prize off the table 3 times and let a couple of the younger kids pick a prize the other 2 times. The look on Dave's face was priceless as I seemed to keep winning.:shocked01: Then came raffle round #2 with the bigger prizes- 2 detectors, 2 pinpointers and a gold coin were up for grabs. I thought I had no shot, since I had already won so much. But, as luck would have it, I was fortunate enough to win the 1852 $1.00 gold coin.:bananadance::bananadance:What a day. Dave, when are doing this next? In all seriousness though, I'll have something to donate on the next event.

Very, very nice copper!! Wow! I saw a two center come out of there that had a similar patina. Must be the soil! Actaually on second thought that might not be me in the picture, I was standing nearby when it was taken though! HH!

Congrats Kev! You nailed it for sure. Digs and raffles. I've got you on a bunch of vid.
Unless there was more than one dug, the 2-center was dug by Rich Williamson, a CT digger.

How many raffle tix did you buy??
What is that shiny stuff on the reverse of that Hibernia?

I found the exact same coin/year and few years ago in a similar farm field. Everything else was corroded, but my Hibernia was in great shape too. :dontknow:
You had the best day of everyone there! Congrats!

Nice job on the Hibernia!

I hadn't heard about your coin that day but it sure looks like you pulled the oldest one since the half Reale was 1763 I believe. WTG

Thanks all.

Lodge Scent- you are right, I should have hit the casino too:lol:

Drew- I dropped a Benjamin on raffle tickets. I didn't anticipate winning so much. I figured I would just be making a nice charitable donation. As for the shiny stuff, it just looks shiny in the photo. It is really a yellowish colored crud on there. I may try to use a tooth pick to slowly remove it. Not sure if I should, or just leave it alone?
