Found the two buttons. One is about the size of a quarter and the other about the size of a nickel. 48957489584895948960Jones and Co might be from 1830s? any help appreciated.

I'm still never certain as to button ages and I dig them every other day. :bangahead02: Dan and the other experts will chime in but I'm going to guess the second button is much older, like you said 1830s. The first button seems "newer" ... after the Civil War.

Not sure about the second button but your first one appears to have a W.H.Jones & Co./ superfine backmark.
William H. Jones, Waterbury. Ct 1835-40. Former partner of the Robinsons. Left Massachusetts in late 1834 & began making buttons in Waterbury c.1835-37. Being a two piece, your button probably dates to about 1840.

Let me add this. Your button back dates to around 1840. It may have been leftover stock that was used at a later date. Another company may have bought up the backs or Jones may have continued on making civilian buttons. Your button's size makes it about right for a ladies coat.

very good ID fyrffytr1 :clapping: the second button because of its one piece convex style i would suspect it being a bit older.

I wish I could make out the backmark on the one piece button.

Nice buttons. Not much I can add to what Dan and fyr and Drew already said. I can see there was some sort of mark on the back of button #2 but I cant make it out from the pic.

That would be a quality mark used by a button maker to promote their buttons. It may say "Rich Orange" or Orange Gilt" . Here is a link to a short narrative about quality marks.
