I needed a hike so I headed out to an old cellar hole site that I hit a bunch of times a few years back. It really is just a hole in the ground with no stone foundation. It had given up a killer DB and a dateless Liberty Cap LC and a couple other coppers in the past.

I spent a few hours detecting mostly within 5 feet of the hole and managed what looks like a 1724 King George I halfpenny, a big plated dandy button, a small tombac, chape, part of an ornate but corroded shoe buckle frame, pewter spoon etc.

KG in the raw:

Cleaned up nice.

Found these 3 buttons in the same hole. They have an odd shape to them. They are kind of oblong, almost looks like they were pinched.

Then I remembered I found an identical button a few years back about an 1/8 of a mile back up the trail heading into the site. Pic of that button below.

I don't recall ever seeing buttons in that style. It was a beautiful morning out in the woods. Not too hot, no ticks = good hunt.

Great finds Jeff! The KG looks awesome. Isn't it great to go back to spots you've hit before and still pull out keepers? With those finds I'm sure there's another trip in store to that site in your future. Congrats.

very nice KG Jeff :thumbsup02: those early coins seem to hold up pretty well , you had a good hunt , i get so frustrated when i find really beautiful shoe buckle fragments , whole plain looking ones but only pieces of the nice ornate ones .
