This year has been by far the most challenging year to find any new sites that have not been pounded to death in my 5 years of hunting. I have hunted and hunted but CT really seems to be drying out.

I really feel sorry for those that get into cellar hole hunting in the future as we have really cleaned out these places.

After much hiking & 2 unproductive sites, the last site of the day produced the copper (my 4th this year) & gilted button on the slope of a hill on the back side. The copper is an 1846 Small Date Variety.

The other finds came from the site where I got my colonial bayonet clip.

Still looking for my 1st Colonial copper for the year.

HH!

Thanks Dan! The picture doesn't do it justice. Except for being dug, it's almost uncirculated.

Yes i see many mid 1840's coins that are in remarkable condition in fact i have the same small dated 46 i found half a dozen years ago and its a very sharp coin too both front and back.

Nice copper. It is in great shape. Nice heel plate too.

You see machines getting better, or at least in the entry level category, to compete. Maybe that's the only answer to alleviate the issue with less finds at these places.

I never saw any numbers or writing on those boot heel plates. That copper is in great shape! :envious:
How'd you get that sheen, ren wax, olive oil?

Thanks Drew! This is the 1st boot plate I've ever dug. 2 coats of Good Ol' Ren Wax! I love that stuff, so much better than the olive oil bath.
