Wow what a day today in the colonial pits in SC! Ended up with exactly 420 pipestems and bowls! Also tons of pottery, hammer, hoe, hand iron, and Isaac got a half of a Georgian wig curler! I also got a very old bottle top, some musketballs, crystal/ glass goblet, dad got 6 buttons a escutcheon plate, some saddle parts etc. we had a blast and we are really tired now, dug for about 5 hours! HH!

I knew a guy who made beautiful whole complete ones from broken pieces and unless you had it up real close , you couldn't tell it wasn't a normal old clay pipe. good luck and please show us your examples once they are done .

That is very cool! I think you should make one pipe....with a 12 foot long stem. :)

Wow that's a lot of stems. Apparently he was a chain smoker. The buttons are nice. The last piece looks like a bullet tip. Post three ringer, pre-cartridge style.

Luke, are you using a sifter?

Hmm.. it only takes a little mention and it sparks a thought. It does seem a sifter would be necessary for that type of spot and those types of finds.

When you said 420 pipe stems, being retired law enforcement, I was thinking of something completely different.

the last piece is actually a broken wig curler for the big powdered wigs! It seems a sifter is pretty much nessecity at these type sites
