Hi all,
Hit a new cellar hole I discovered on a map earlier this week. Scouted for it Wednesday evening with an approx lat/lon via Google Earth and historic map overlay. This method has worked well for me in the past and it didn't let me down this time. Found it in after a 10 min walk from the parking lot on public property. Off any trail so was conservatively optimistic, though I never get hopes too high - you're only let down otherwise most of the time. Anyway, only had an hour and a half or so to hunt today and gratefully pulled a few keepers. Lots of ground to cover so I'll be back, but in the meantime to the finds/pics. 1906 IH, 1918 wheat, Anchor Brand WW1 buckle with pat date of Jan 12, 1904, and the best find (IMHO) - a Rutland & Burlington early railroad tag with a J. Robbins/Boston mfg mark on back. I did some quick research on the railroad the the manufacturer. This info plus the age of the home site places the tag in the 1858 to 1867 range so that brought a smile to my face. Also pulled my share of trash, which we all do of course. Thanks for looking and best regards.

Great results from a short hunt John , the site shows a lot of promise !! Keep track of how many hours you spend at that site you'll be surprised that after 25 to 35 hours at one site , how much stuff you find .

congrats on the nice RR tag :smitten:

Thanks Dan. Will certainly head back. Now just need to get a slightly better detector to seek out those more difficult targets. F2 has been good to me, but after 2+ years it's time for me to move on. Will likely upgrade to an AT-Pro or something similar next spring.

Congrats on that RR Tag. Looks like the site may not have been hunted before - good luck.

Nice tag. I try to do what you do with the overlay and get an approx. GPS coordinate. Then I put it into my map as a saved spot. Good you found it.
