I think I better go buy a lottery ticket or something. Last weekend I found my first Trime and my second war nickle. Yesterday I hit a different field and got my first eagle button (turns out to be WWI general service), an IH and an 1851 Braided Hair LC (not 1831...correcting my prior post). This morning I only had about and hour to hunt and I went back to the same field as yesterday. Off the bat I get my first Barber half ever (1908) and my first dated Buffalo (1927) in the same hole. Later I pull another big silver coin that had me stumped. Turns out it is a 1917 British 1 Florin (aka 2 shilling) coin. I thought it was an 8 Reale at first! It's 92.5% silver but was pretty tarnished. Also got a very thin piece of busted British sterling that may have been a thimble or something similarly shaped. Man am I hooked on this hobby.

Some great finds! The two silver coins are about the same date and size. I wonder how they compare value wise in the early 20th century? :congrats:

"Man, am I hooked on this hobby" Anyone would be finding a "boat" load of silver like that! I guess a doughboy brought that florin home with him. What's that addition piece of silver in the last pic? Great job!!

Some nice big silver there. Just one year after mine on that Barber. I gotta get back to my field that I got lucky on. Maybe try to hit the area that looked like there was more activity in 1934.

Good question Drew. Whatever it was it was made of super thin silver and it got shredded. It looks like it was small and originally conical shaped almost like a thimble with a domed or rounded top that was open on the end. I don't think it was a thimble because it is not rigid enough to be a thimble...at least not like any I have ever seen. Trying to piece it together it looks like it had a round opening at the top. Almost wonder if it went on the tip of a cigar or something but I don't even know if such a thing exists.

I had just replied to your 1st post from that field, wishing you good luck upon your return. Obviously no luck needed with your skill. Huge congrats on that Barber and 1st dated Buff.

Excellent finds! Man, I'd keep returning to that field over and over until things slow down, or at least keep it as your backup site when plan A doesn't pan out. Congrats.
