View Full Version : A Killer Day That Started Slow but Exploded in the End!

The day started out with my dad and I heading out to this spot we got permission to hit. The house was built in 1804 and the owner told us when he was replacing his windowsills he found a 1796 Draped Bust large cent under it! How crazy is that?!? Anyways, when we first got there we went to the backyard because the owner said there used to be an old building back there so we thought we would check that out. Not much there so we headed up to the front yard. It seemed as if most of the yard had been filled in. EXCEPT this small area of the side yard. I at this time being discouraged was sitting in my car getting some water after not finding anything for 2 hours straight:bangahead02: until we talked to the owner for a bit and after that I felt like I would give the little side of the yard with my dad a try. Well to say the least it was crazy. I believe it was my first hole, a high 70's - low 80's on the ATPro. I dug down and was pulling out the dirt all the way at the bottom of the hole at nine inches deep I then saw a small round disk. I thought it was a flat button because it was so small. Well I pulled it out of the hole and lone behold guys I pushed the dirt of with my thumb and BOOM!:shocked04: The detail exploded and I could see it was a 1832 Classic Head Half Cent!!! I knew exactly what it was when I realized it was a coin. My second ever half cent and the second this year! I had an absolutely awesome day out and found a handful of other relics too! Also, let me say thanks to Isaac for pointing out to me that only 51,000 of them were minted! My rarest coin to date and I am so ecstatic to have found it. It was hit by either maybe a wagon or plow a long time ago but the gorgeous details makes up for it to me!
P.S. Sorry for the pictures being sideways, still not sure on how to fix that.
Keep on Swinging Everyone! :detecting:

That half is in great shape too!! :envious:
The crotal must have been a monster!
It's sad when you get permission at these wonderful homes to find out dirt was brought in. I'm glad you found a hot spot!

That's one amazing find. With all the large cents that are found I never understand why so few 1/2 cents are found. A true rarity. Congrats. WD

Dang!! A size 10 crotal. You found a good amount to it.
Maybe people were less wealthy in your area because I cannot seem to find half cents. Only LCs. Congrats on scoring one, tho. There is a way on your phone to edit photos. Lol. I think I asked and yours is IOS. My android there is an option to rotate without going into the edit mode. In the edit mode, you can do the same thing, along with color options, but it usually saves a second copy with a different name. When I search the phone by file name (which is the date it was taken), I have to do a separate search as it adds dashes in the file name. Irritating, but can be worked around. You can always get Picasa or similar app on the phone. I am sure there are some that are free.

WTG on the 1/2 Cent. Still looking for one of those babies. That buckle isn't too shabby either.

Great group of finds! Congrats on the half cent, that's a coin that I haven't found yet.
The matchbox is a 1960's refrigerator box truck. Originally thought it might be a fire truck
