Fairly recently, I obtained permission to search an old brick building from the 1830s. Not much was found, but I did manage probably one of my coolest finds to date.

At first what I thought was a tombac button with an interesting pattern, turns out to be a Rev War British button. Thanks Isaac for the identification!

Fantastic find Sam! Looks like it's a Royal Navy Lieutenant's button with the tudor rose motif at center. See http://www.historicalimagebank.com/gallery/v/album02/album21/album46/?g2_page=3 at bottom left. Dan or others may be able to provide more context. Way to go.

Sam , the button is a great find I only wish that I could find the exact type or variation example to compare it to . Did you ever send a picture or put one on Don Troiani's FB page to confirm which it is ??

Pretty sure you'll look for a very long time trying to confirm that is a Rev War button. There's way more that aren't than are, and that unfortunately is one of them.

Hey Patch , could it be an unofficial "Loyalists" button ??

Nope. It's a designed civilian tombac, no less and no more.

Nice button regardless military or civilian.

It's definitely an old one! I haven't dug a nice designed tombac for a long time, at least a whole one... last two were broken. Definitely the era where a Rev War button could come out.
