View Full Version : Need some help identifying.

I have been trying to figure out what this is. It measures about 1.5" wide and long. The two prongs each come to a point. My guess is that it would have held a leather strap? Found it on an early 1900s farm site. Says Pat 1869. Hopefully this is clear. 1st time posting a picture. 51953

I believe that is an old suspender buckle! Great shape too. HH, Dave.

I agree with DD, that is indeed an old suspender buckle, and it's pretty heavy duty and fancy plus it's in awesome condition! Predates mine (patent date) by 12 years. Congrats! :congrats:

BTW-is there a MFG name on it anywhere? If so, it can be researched.

Nice find. Definitely a suspender clip. The prongs/chappe piece would throw me off to think its earlier than 1869, if it didn't have the patent date on it. It looks like there is some sort of pattern near the clip. Still made within the Victorian era.

Congrats on a nice whole suspender clip/buckle , these come it many different styles .

Nice suspender buckle. They do come in different styles, but some that are found are actually buckles that were on the back of vests and waist coats. If you scroll down on this sit, you will see some of them.

Yes Earle , in fact the small Squarish ones had many uses as they were used on early trousers , vests and even boots.

Thanks everyone. There was a small ring that was in the same hole next to it. When I carefully lifted it, it fell completely apart. Disintegrated. No manufacturers name on it.
It is in very nice shape. I just did a gentle cleaning with a toothpick to rid the dry dirt. Hope that is the right thing to do. I love the fact that it still operates nicely too.
