silver Emerald ring and 2Cent 1865.

Found a Silver ring with it looks like a emerald stone. Large stone. It has Sterling inside. The 2 cent is a 1865. Not sure what a Emerald Stone is worth but I believe it is a handmade old ring. My first 2 center.52015520165201752018

Very nice finds! I would take the ring to a jeweler to have the stone and setting verified, or even appraised if you like. The 2 center is a really sweet find-don't see many of those found! :clapping:

It is set in silver, however, I believe in the old days silver was used a lot. Hope is has a lot of value. I know the stone looks like at least 2.5 carat. Not a expert by any means.

Personally, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high just yet. being set in silver is a sign it's likely simulated emerald (glass). My grandmother had many such pieces of jewelry which were popular around the art deco period. I would think that a stone of that size and value would be set in gold instead. Not sayng it isn't possible though, so to be sure you would need to get it checked out.

If it's real, I looked up some prices of loose emeralds. The good quality dark green (as this one appears to be) 1.5 Ct. go for around $4000 to $8000. Guestimating by comparing to the paperclip, it would measure about 7mmX9mm, which puts it around 2.5 Ct. from examples on the web site I checked. Stones of that size I looked at published prices from between $2000 and $27,500!

I am going to try to take it to a local jeweler today to see if the stone is real. It seems to be also cut on the inside of the stone. Would they do that on a non real stone?

Nice score. Idk... today a sterling ring would definitely have a lab created stone in it. Technically it is still an emerald, just lab grown. I think like cz, there is an etching inside that can only be seen with a jewelers loop to distinguish.
