I decided to go out today and see if I could dig the frozen ground. It had about an inch of frozen soil, but once I got past that it was easy digging. I started at a park and no luck, so I found an old house, knocked on the door and got a yes.
My first good target was a token. I almost put it the trash pouch thinking it was a washer, but the I saw the writing on it. Ok, first Token of the season, pretty cool. My next find was an old oil lamp top. Fully intact too. Ok, first relic of the season. Pretty Cool.
My third good target was a nice 1868 Indian. A semi key date I think. Ok, first Indian of the season. Real Cool.

I may be able to get out for a little while tomorrow, but I think that's going to be it for a while. Deep cold is setting in :frozen:.

Happy New Year everyone !!

Beautiful IH! I also recognize the harness buckle-I found 2 just like that not long ago at a couple different sites. Very unusual token! All said and done, a great start to the new year! :perfect10:

That 1868 Indian Head is a real beauty, Don! Super sharp details on it, and it's a semi-key date as well! That's one I need, I have never found an 1868.

:congrats:

Nice IH and token, Don. I prob wouldn't mistake the token for a washer because all the washers I find are crusty iron ones. I'll admit at first I see a disk and get excited thinking 'hey, there was a coin but the odd VDI was prob nearby masking." Then it becomes.. "Oh... it was just a washer. Now I know why it was reading as such..." Only person I saw dig more of a lantern was Lee... who pulled up almost a complete one including the base and top. I'm guessing the lamps just had a disposable assembly. Why else would so many of that one piece be found and very few entire lanterns?
