Hi dear friends,

first of all i wish you all the best for 2016 ! Good health and happiness.
I've started this year with a bang. Found a Roman fibulae (Roman brooche in turtle shape)dated 1th - 3th century AD, in all probability was a Roman soldier the owner. It is a pin that the soldier was wearing on his chest to keep his cloths/mantle tight. The first line of defence of the Roman legion wore these pins, because the turtleshaped brooche showed that the were able to take a shield defending position. I'm very pleased with this find, it gets a place of honor in my showcase.

With kind regards from the Netherlands,

Johan

Fantastic find Johan! Anything Roman would have me sky high. Is the piece bronze, or iron? Just curious.

Bronze. Iron wouldn't last that long.
