I went out for about an hour today. Around 50 degrees in New Hampshire. I had a pretty good day! Found a flattened little musket shot and I found these things inches apart. I was swinging on what I believe to have been a private road in the 1800s. Could these be parts to a set of horse reins?? The buckle still had a piece of leather on it! The other piece is funky. I thought horse reins right away when I extracted it. What do you guys think?

I would say horse tack. Is the buckle brass covered with muck?

it rung up as an iron signal when it was still in the ground. I only did one swing over it because i had just dug the ring and clip in the same hole basically. I just got the beep and went right back to it to see what was left in it. Didnt even see what it rung up as after. Ill look tomorrow. And yes mostly muck. I have it soaking right now. ill post a follow up picture tomorrow

I agree the iron ring could be from a harness or a wooden oxen yolk/tree , its a decent indicator of possible other goodies in the old road Owen.

Looks like horse tack hardware to me. Possibly a halter.
