The signature I've added to my posts say "treasure hunters for life". Before we bought metal detectors we dug gems and minerals out of the ground. We moved back to Michigan in 1993 to take care of Family. But while we lived out West we spent our time digging this stuff. 528845288752888528895289052891

Every one of these pieces was self collected, and we have hundreds more. Hopefully we'll do as well in our metal detecting treasure hunting!

Now those are cool looking. I believe in MI you can get copper and fossils.

Arizona has a lot of places to find rocks and minerals. There are even hills out there to find gold. I actually would like to take a drive some day to Carolina. I think it was NC, but there is a place where you can pan for minerals. You get a bucket o'mud and sift through it in the sift stream. Same with a place in Arkansas.

Actually the fourth picture from the top is blue celestite. It was collected near Maybee Michigan in the Maybee quarry. Most all of the quarries we used to dig in are all off limits now.

Yep, that's right. We've collected many fine specimens of Petosky, and went all the way up to Copper Harbor a couple of times. Love it up there!

That's right! A couple of the specimens pictured are from Arizona. The place you're thinking of in Arkansas is Crater of Diamond State Park. I've heard of a place in North Carolina with gems. I believe there are several places near Asheville kind of like crater of diamonds that charge a flat fee and you dig and sift till your hearts content. I took the kids to Crater of Diamond once didn't find anything but it's still fun.
