Had a great time with my two long time friends Todd (Thiltzy) and Dave (HEAVYMETALNUT) yesterday trudging through the woods in search of colonial history . Unfortunately the four "new" sites were pretty "barren" of finds .

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2016/39374d4c-ef6b-4380-ae54-7677a6bfedab_zpswxxqn4ze.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2016/39374d4c-ef6b-4380-ae54-7677a6bfedab_zpswxxqn4ze.jpg.html)

One of the first buttons was this nice designed 1-piece "dome" button

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2016/domed%20fancy%20button_zps7am94rwl.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2016/domed%20fancy%20button_zps7am94rwl.jpg.html)

at another site i picked up this nice little colonial "open work" frame knee buckle , its kind of hard to see but there are leaf stamped motifs around the frame . although i have found many broken fragments this is my first intact "open type" knee buckle :yahoo:

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2016/Leaf%20motif%20open%20work%20knee%20buckle_zpsdyho xwhs.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2016/Leaf%20motif%20open%20work%20knee%20buckle_zpsdyho xwhs.jpg.html)

Shortly after the buckle i got a great looking large dandy button , this one is very close to the size f a half dollar and has a nice "spiral sunburst" design.

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2016/spiral%20sunburst%20dandy_zpsfkvlli3c.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2016/spiral%20sunburst%20dandy_zpsfkvlli3c.jpg.html)

Finally at the last site i saved myself from going home "copper-less" by nabbing this 1731 King George II half penny

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2016/King%20George%20II_zpsxhf7tvsr.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2016/King%20George%20II_zpsxhf7tvsr.jpg.html)

this was the total of the keepers , about ten buttons in all , the shotgun shells that i dug this day out numbered the buttons about 2 1/2 to 1  and a few of the sites were plaqued with cross century contamination and a lot of modern trash was pouched and carried out .

http://i486.photobucket.com/albums/rr228/del1786/2016/March%2019th%20finds_zpserwpmutn.jpg (http://s486.photobucket.com/user/del1786/media/2016/March%2019th%20finds_zpserwpmutn.jpg.html)

Thanks for reading all .

Nice score Dan. Those open work buckles are nice, hoping to find a complete one some day. Overall, nice outing despite the sites being hit before! :thumbsup01:

That's a good size knee buckle frame! Very productive day! How'd the coin turn out? :notworthy:

Tony "open work" frames are not uncommon but because they are somewhat weaker in construction they break easy and we usually find pieces of them . Thanks

Very nice, still a good day regardless. Congrats on the nice finds!

DOD , this days totals were from 4 cellar foundations (a few hours at each) but i'm not complaining on "the take" . thank you

You know Jim , sometimes you have to swing a lot of area for the few scraps someone else missed or passed up . Thanks

Thanks Roger , yes the ticks are starting to get active already ! i pulled a couple of my pants that day , don't forget to dress accordingly and to spray your clothes with permethrin .

Drew the coin was hit by a plow or hoe blade at on time (you can see it as it makes ol'George look like he has an exaggerated smile ) so its a little bent and where it was found i don't expect it to clean up that well. Thank you sir

Jeff the last minute copper find put me just over the edge to the "good hunt" side for the day . Thank you

Don , my goal is to give you and Al the best chance of bringing home a few decent colonial keepers . see you soon

Nice finds Dan. I feel lucky we live in an area of the country with such old history and heck, even my Victorian finds can make my day if they're in good shape. In a few cases I've found those to be even better since after some research I've actually matched the item to the likely individuals (dad, mom, daughter etc) with an old photo to boot from the local town historical society - really brings a connection to the item. I really love those large dandies by the way. Do you use H2O2 to clean those as well? I was pondering using my tumbler on some of my non-pewter/tombac ones. Thanks for posting.

Sounds like a great day of detecting. I wish my b-i-l still lived in CT. I enjoyed the opportunity to detect with you and Dave a few years ago and would love to get another chance with the cellar hole gang!

John sometimes i'll use peroxide and sometimes if there is a bit of gilt underneath i'll use some CLR but i really diluted it with water for these copper alloy buttons . Thanks

Thank you Brian , your welcome out this way anytime , I would love to have you out this way again . I've been talking to another fellow out in your area and he has given me an invite to detect a few nearby fields of the Saratoga battlefield . Maybe you know him .

Thanks Donnie , lets hope we can get a spot or two to give you the best chance of getting one when you come out here.

I'm sure I know him, just haven't met in person, we are heading to one of my sites across the river next week.

And Thanks for the invite! maybe this fall I can get out that way.
