Hi all,
I got back to the park Wednesday morning for a few hours before the storm hit. This is the place I found the 1891 V nickel, and had hoped to find more of the old coins. No luck with the coins this time other than 3 more wheaties- a 48D, 44 and 1916.
But i did find an old brass ray-o-vacation flashlight cap, many misc pieces, and my best find of the year so far. A hotel barn tag! I'm pretty sure it was attached to the horse's halter to identify it. The hotel was the biggest in Milwaukee at the time, but only operated firm 1872 to 1889, which nicely dates this piece.

$2.14 in clad, including 25 pennies found in 1 hole!

I wish they were real gold! Unfortunately not. Rang up pretty high as I remember, and no markings.

Found some info on the Ray-O-Vac copper flashlight cover. This model was made in the 1920s to about 1930. :)

Thanks Dennis!
Funny thing abut the livery barn tag-probably such a mundane item in its time, but quite a rarity 140 years later. Can't find a single reference to another example anywhere!

Nice tag. Bracelets are a nice find despite not being gold and at least you found both. I wonder what they would be made of to have a high vdi 'cuz I think the any plating would be what the machine sees.

I was wondering about composition too and found the bracelets are made of plated red copper.

Ok, that explains the high VDI. Sure VDI's are software driven, the scale pretty much is the same as the conductivity scale of metals which is why silver is a little higher than copper and aluminum is right up there as well. And guess that shows the machine doesn't necessarily see the plating material...

I would consider the USA button with threads the "holy grail" if I had found it! I have a CW Union button that I dug with threads still on it that I treasure in my collection. I just joined this group today even tho I have been detecting for 40 years now; find it a really refreshing site.

That is a great relic Chris. You should frame the picture of the Hotel with the tag that would make a cool display. Great find. WD
