I finally got out today for a quick hunt...but I didn't mind the layoff as I was on vacation visiting my son in CA. I dug a few small flat buttons and one decorated dandy....but what really got my interest was this coin. It is the exact same size as a 1657 Liard I dug last year...what do you think, something like that example? Thanks!!
PS The 1st pic is gosh darn sideways. The "L" with two dots is at top of the 1st pic, and at 8 o clock in the example.

Far be it for me to ID this, but hoping it is a Liard.....I even have one, which makes me look that much more stupid....

I'm not the Liard or French coin expert (Iron Patch is way better than I , plus i've never found one:girlcry: !) but it does look like one Drew with the better pictures.

I think so Drew. Honestly, the first thing that caught my eye was what looked like a "6" as in "16??" Even if is a "0" it's "170?"....It's an oldie no matter what the date. Nice find!

Pulling for you Drew that it's indeed another Liard. That would be awesome! To play devil's advocate, the textbook example shows the two dots clearly outside the base of the "L", while in your example they sit atop the edges of the L. This is probably a minor issue though as the levels of mint QC in the 17th century were nothing close to today!

Nice find! Never heard of those, but here in the Midwest it's not something we would likely ever come across.

I'm guessing it's a liard.
