Hi all,
Got out to a few sites over the weekend, but not much to be found it seems. The first was an 1891 lime kiln site now turned park. High hopes, but obviously pounded as I only took out 36 cents in clad. So i spent the rest of the afternoon trying the fields at the farm I live on. This was unreal-not a single target to br had in 4 hours of swinging! The only find was in the yard which turned out to be the plate from a card swipe. I researched and found it was the predecessor of credit cards used between 1935 and 1950.

Today I got out for the afternoon to 2 parks. The first I also had high hopes for as I found it had a sand beach along the river popular from around 1930 to I'm guessing the 50s. The only thing I found was a 1914 wheatie on the trail leading to the area. I'm guessing the beach was either dug out or washed away in the spring floods.
The next site was back to the old zoo/park where I found the IHS a short time ago. After about 3 hours all I found was one 1954D wheatie and a brass cap of some sort. . As I was headed back to the car, about 6 feet from the curb I get an iffy 12-36 at 6 inches. So i decided to dig anyway despite all the trash and was rewarded with my last keeper, a 1910 wheatie. All in all not the worst day, and still got 2.27 in clad.

Not to shabby, 3 wheat's and 2 of them are over 100 years old. Interesting pre credit card item, never saw one before.

Needed a "D" on that wheatie for a GREAT find. The pre credit card plate is quite unique, never even new that. Nice find. My Sunday hunts were less productive then yours, you at least found a few keepers. Keep swinging WD

Thanks guys! Yes, a 14D would have been sweet! I also looked up the name on the plate and found he lived from the 1890s to 1971, and was probably the guy running this plsce as the cabbage farm it used to be. I'm still amazed there wasn't a single target in the fields though as they were worked since the mid 1800s according to the Plat maps

That card swipe is interesting. Never heard of one before. It looks like a dog tag with the info, but no hole to be on a necklace...

Lol... first sentence in the article was exactly how I said it.... similar to a dog tag (military).

Not as bad as my Sunday hunt....the radar said rain all day...It looked as if the skies were going to open up all day...but never did...so I missed out. As Al said, three 100 yr old coins are nothing to scoff at. :thumbsup02:
