I hadn't gotten out in a couple of weeks but I was up at dawn Saturday and decided to hit a couple of remote sites that I hadn't been to in a few years to see if I could sniff anything out of the iron patches. Was rewarded for my efforts with a copper and buttons from each site.

First site gave up a decent 1801 Draped Bust.

The second site produced what I think is a KGII halfpenny that was turned into a button.

I didn’t think I would be digging much as these were pounded sites so I left my finds belt at home. I was a bit miffed at myself after finding this hole in my pocket. All the buttons had gone in that pocket. Likely lost 1 or 2.

Several buttons had interesting back marks. This button has no back mark but had an attached rim and it has an eagle motif stamped into it.

Spotted a nice garter snake.

Now that is some good "sniffing." Could that be a whizzer instead of a button? Nice going Jeff!

Jeff , I know what you mean (its been about a month since i've been out :girlcry:) that draped bust looks like it has loads of detail , I really hope to see it once you cleaned her up some :smitten:. The button however is very intriguing :shocked02:, i wish it took a better photo . the button itself looks pretty old but from what i see of the eagle looks to be a very old type of one . great finds !!:clapping:

That it is a whizzer rather than a button makes sense Drew. I should have thought of that my self.

You had a nice streak going there for a while Dan. Life shouldn't interfere with detecting but it often does. Time for you to get back on the hunt :) That DB ended up being pretty porous, especially the reverse. So I pretty much just gave it a light cleaning and Ren-waxed over the remaining dirt. I'm trying to get some better pics of that button to help with an ID but the impression of the eagle is very lightly struck. I'll try it out in the sun....next time it comes out.

Todd, I hope your Memorial Day hunt brings you memorable finds :thumbsup01: I will unfortunately stuck in a plane heading to Idaho....for work, not pleasure. No colonial cellar holes out there anyway. Though I did come across an old mining camp last year. Maybe I will bring the Deus

Nice coppers, that Draped bust looks real good. Don't worry about sewing up that hole cause now you have a reason to go back to that site.
