I was out today and dug this pocket watch in an old yard. Before I take it to a jeweler i thought I would run it by you guys first. I can't tell if it's 1970 junk or an 1870 gem. The face is metal not porcelain. I don't know anything about watches. Does the back look modern?

What do you Think??

Have Stone Jewelers in Wheaton on Front street crack the back open an see if there is a maker's mark. If it's junk or treasure you'll know right away.

Best to open the back cover and locate the stamp. Should be a manufacturer and a part or serial number. That will give you the info you need to look up the relevant info. I'm pretty sure the case is just plated, but a nice find nonetheless

With a metal face, I believe it to be early 1900s. Like 1910s/20s with the railroad conductors. Similar to the watch my grandfather had that I got now. Altho mine is silver. Yes, check under the back cover. Most likely the top plate for the gear covers has a manufacture scribed on it.

This is what I found about the Stratford watches. It even does specify in one post about the Langendorf. It did say it was made to look like the railroad type of watches just as I said earlier.
