I have an area in my county that I regularly find small pieces of float copper. They usually are around an ounce in weight and range from dime to half dollar in size. The largest I've found prior to this piece was about a pound and the size of my palm. I found this piece last week and it was close to a surface find. My detector overloaded on it and I noticed it had a greenish tint to it so I dug it and discoverd it was copper. It weighs 17 lbs 6 ounces and is approximately 12" x 9".

I have a few areas I detect where I'll find small pieces but the large ones are not that common around here. They are more prevalent in upper Michigan. The value is actually more than the scrap value. I've seen large pieces sell for a few hundred dollars.

That's a nice find. Keep your detector running for a halfbreed, silver and copper.
