Early this morning midas and I again headed over to the lake for some shallow water detecting. We both scored with gold and silver.

I picked up two old 10k gold rings, a G-Man ring, a junk ring, nine wheat cents, four buffalo nickels, a 1905 V nickel, a 1943-P wartime silver nickel, several religious pendants, and thirteen silver coins. :happydance01:

The two halves are dated 1918 and 1941. The Washington quarters are dated 1935 and 1944.The dimes are dated 1903, 1926, 1934, 1937, 1939-D, 1944, 1944, 1944-D, and 1945.

I like the design on this 10k gold ring.

A 1945 10k gold school ring.

The G-Man ring.

All four rings together.

Many of the nickels I find while shallow water detecting have held up well in the water. The buffalo nickels are dated 1914-D  , 1924, 1926, and 1934.

It's amazing how many religious pendants can be found while shallow water detecting.

And there were more wheat cents too.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

HH!

Them silvers are ugly  Will they clean up nice or has the water made them toast? The Buffalos and V are real nice :shocked04: So are them wheats. I think an Excalibur is in my future. :thinkingabout: Hey Angel, you found my ring  At least that's what Dave calls me  Nice group of finds. Giving the land a rest? Hope them gophers are restocking that silver ;)

Most of the silver coins will clean up nicely, but several will have a bit of pitting. I do like how nice many of the nickels and wheat cents come out. :smitten:

I will still be hitting the parks, but right now I'm trying to take advantage of the hot weather by hitting the lakes. It's been a while since I have done so.

You found all those religious medals today? :shocked04: :shocked04: No WAY!

I still love the rings as much as the coins :) But a fantastic haul on the silver coins :happydance01:

It just shows you how much damage is done to coins when you add oxygen. The nickels and coppers look great in water because of the minimal oxygen, but the silvers take a beating for some reason. Just the opposite of land hunting!

Yeah. I don't find many modern ones. I guess many folks are not as religious.

Exactly! The sulfide on the silver does come off easily enough using the baking soda and aluminum trick, but several of the coins will show signs of pitting. For some reason it doesn't happen to silver coins found at some lakes though. :thinkingabout:
