Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while due to the 70 rounds of golf I've played this year since retiring but I'm getting the itch again so I got permission to detect the yard of an 1850 house. The 1847 braided hair cent was 8 inches down under a root and I sweated big time to get it out ( I only lasted 2 hours since its 93 degrees out today). These are the only things that I dug up, not a single modern coin surprisingly enough. Think someone beat me here. Hope to get out more soon.

Congrats on your retirement! You lasted a lot longer than I did today! That is one good looking coin. I LIKE the holes! :clapping:

That's a coin with character. Nice save :thumbsup01:Thanks. To tell you the truth I've always looked at coins with holes as small tragedies, but I'm changing my opinion on the subject. It looks like it was first holed to be worn as jewelry and the second hole is square and the coin is bent concave where it was pounded to make the hole so it may have been nailed to a barn wall perhaps? I guess the possibility makes finding the coin with 2 holes better than if the holes weren't there.

All your targets look older :cheering: , I'd keep detecting that spot (especially in the spring when the ground is saturated) until it didn't cough up anything more . I agree the coin looks like it was first holed to be worn as the date is just opposite , it may had to have been use to spend and someone else used it as a washer since it was holed already .

I did the golf thing but I have to admit I prefer the swing of my detector. Should Jim Furyk and his 58 be worried?? Nice finds WD
