This is the strangest thing we've ever found. Yes, that is a Kenmore sewing machine, 1 ft down in the sand on a public beach. It even made it into the Garrett Searcher.

WOW! Now that's an odd find! I'd have to say my weirdest find was a pre-civil war photo of the couple that lived at a wooded cellar hole I was hunting. It's here- http://www.americandetectorist.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=37706&d=1396215321

I once found a brand new in-the-box infrared cooking grill. Someone had actually dug a big hole and buried it. But first they wrapped the box in layers of aluminum foil and plastic wrap, duct tape and plastic sheeting. The way it was wrapped, I thought for sure I was digging up dealer's huge stash of pot or narcotics.

Less exciting but equally strange, once in the middle of the woods, not near any trails, I dug up a modem !!! I was like; "What the heck ??"

Thats a nice picture and frame ,is it silver? Glad I dont live in a cellar hole.
I bet some survivalist buried that grill, as for the modem maybe stuff falls out of the sky. I just get all twisted trying to figure how stuff gets where it gets. Lol

Nope, not silver. I rang up in the nickel range...thought I was digging a shot gun shell.

I once had a high silver tone that was too small to be a squashed can. It was only a couple inches deep so of course I had to dig and check it out. I pulled the plug and when I stuck my digger back in the hole to removed some more dirt a purpleish liquid shot out of the hole and hit me square in the face. ( I was on my knees with face right over the hole). Instantly I had a burning sensation all over my face and especially in my eyes. Luckily I was not far from my pick-up and had several bottles of water. I washed and flushed my face and eyes as best I could but it was 10 - 15 minutes before I could fully see well again.

Well I had to know what happened and to decide if I needed to go to a poison control place, ER or something.

I went back to the hole with a shovel and not the hand spade. There was silver in the hole. I flipped the dirt out of the hole along with a small cylinder of , ready for it... Pepper Spray. I had punctured the canister. Never want to do that again.

Suggestions range from an antique still that used lead pipe, to a lead coupler for lead pipes.

It was found near a creek where civil war artifacts have been found. Right now it's sitting in my trash can outside because I can't stand the strong sweet smell of lead that thing thing emits.

Strangest thing? Nothing as strange as a sewing machine, but quite a few oddities to be sure. Here's a few examples:

How about a huge brass hook?

A collection of nozzles maybe?
55515

Or a Graffs soda dispenser.
55516

But this may take the cake-a USDA suspect meat tag.

 When my daughter was first married they rented a house....the first thing I found on their lawn was a merry widows tin. I did tease her by saying. "I'm not going to be a grandfather that way"

That's what I was thinking, someone else thought it was a coupler for some old lead piping.
