I usually can get out for an hour after work. I was thrilled the other day to dig my best and largest crotal bell to date. I find those things hard to come by. There's also a sweet 1820 coronet, another unidentified copper (I think I see the back of a head facing right), some buffs, wheats, an indian, musket, suspender part, etc. The coronet has a raised x over its face!! I have no idea what that is. Thanks for looking!!

Great group of keepers. Crotal bells are indeed hard to come by, especially whole ones. :congrats: on yours sir. That LC has a raided X....:dontknow:.

I forgot to mention that large round thing is the handle of a dater. "The Expert Dater" Patented April 7th, 1891.

Nice finds; the"X" on the large cent is an issue with the die from which the obverse of the coin was struck.

Thanks Gaspipe! Could you elaborate? I don't understand :dontknow:...I have a clashed die fugio which shows a faint obverse on the reverse...but why would there be a large X?

Oh, I get it... issue means "problem" haha I'm slow, yeah I could see some scratches on the die would cause the raised lines....Thanks!

Great group of finds! I would be happy just with the IH and buffalos-a crotal or coronet LC would be a dream find. Well done and congrats!

Sweet bell Drew! Is that "X" actually part of the coin? I have found some that had similar features that turned out to be a where a root or twig had lain across the coin and became calcified and left a raised line ?? Not sure how that would explain the "X" though ???? Interesting find.

Very nice finds, Drew. I'm intrigued by this "Dater" thing. What is it exactly? In the pic it looks like maybe a watch case. What else can you tell us about it?

Thank you, everyone! Yeah, Jeff it's part of the coin...I thought it might have been remnants of roots too.
Digger, there seems to be very little info out there about that dater. I guess it's the top part of a dater like the one pictured.
