Button

Found this button at my 1845 homestead site. One piece. Slightly larger than a dime. The face is convex at the center. The back is flat. It is so crusty I can not determine if there is any detail of design or any maker mark. There is a small amount of silver plate still remaining.

I am wondering if this could be an example of a home-spun button but the silver puts that in doubt for me.

Any idea of age?

Homespun? ...as in lathed like the tombacs are usually made? It looks to me like a regular early 1800s 1 piece button that just got crusty. Shank looks a little different than usual. Many of the one piece buttons I have pulled are about the size of a penny, or slightly larger than a dime. I would guess that there was a backmark judging by age of house. I think 1838 on is two piece design. Maybe a repurposed button from 1820s prob from Scovill.

Hard to tell from the picture , how is the shank ?

Yeah, the shank is bit unusual but generally looks like a typical early 1800s flat button.
