Short field hunt nets first fatty, IH, button

Hi all,
Got out and braved the cold to do a hunt in a nearby field that's been partially used as a community garden this past year. Most looks to have been let go wild mid season as most have not been harvested and has lots of weeds covering everything.
The old 1870s maps show a homestead next to this field, but that lot is now a newer church. Really glad I got out today as I found 2 Indians, an 1868 and an 1863 which is my first fatty. :notworthy:

Also found an odd one piece concave button with a partial shank. Pretty toasty though so unlikely to get an ID. I wanted to stay the day but the woman insisted she come along today and after 15 minutes decided she was cold and went back to the car. Only 45 minutes later she was bored so that ended the hunt.

Thanks much! Those old Indians weren't what I was expecting, but sure was surprised and am happy to find them. They weren't too far apart, and the button was also nearby. All were top finds too. The fatty water on top of the soil sticking out on edge, don't know how it was still standing! Lol
The woman felt bad and sent me back out for the last 90 minutes of daylight. Surprisingly there wasnt anything else to be found but 2 zincolns near the road. About 2/3 of the field is still planted with soy beans, so can't even swing there, but hope they get plucked soon so I can get the rest of the area.

It rang up as a solid 12-28. Thought it was junk, but saw it standing on edge on top of the ground. Just picked it up and said WOW!

Oh the joys. I have had that too, altho lately since she has a machine and was able to get into it at a fairly decent site, she was at least entertained that she didn't get bored. ... And it just started with the snow as I type. WTH?!?! :girlcry: Both for an indication to the ending of the detecting coming near and the craziness of others when a snowflake falls. Its pandemonium and no one remembers how to drive.

Need to make a correction. After extensive cleaning of the really toasty IH it turns out to be the more common 1865, not 1868 as it first looked like. Too bad it was so toasty too as it seems it had almost no wear when dropped.

Like I noted above, after cleaning I found part of the 8 disappeared. It's actually an 1865, and not a semi key date as I first thought.
