As Hockeyguy's recent finds of the 2 mercs. in the same hole only goes to show the importance of rechecking holes after finding a target. On numerous occassions I have found multiple coins in the same hole, most recent was 2 nights ago, I had a solid quater hit, I dug and had 2 quarts in my hand, went back over it and kept digging, another, recheck, another, recheck, another..total $1.25 in one hole in quarters...I'll dig clad...pays for the batteries and if I'm lucky the detector, as I do not sell my other finds. My best was 2 Spanish 2 Reales in one hole one a 1754 the other 1819.

So Rechecking holes is a good habit to form and you will find more......otherwise Angel will be right behind you finding the silver!!!!!!!

not only that , look at how far apart the dates are , boy they sure used those coins in circulation a long time .

Reales were sanctioned by the US govt. to be used in general circulation until 1858. I believe that both were dropped at the same time probably in the 1820's/ The earlier one was worn well but the 1819 was in great shape with the design still on the edge.

I found 5 quarters in one hole this year too and yesterday I found 7 dimes in a hole, wish every dig was like that.

I would like to add my favorite and best metal detecting story which also verifies the wisdom of rechecking your holes - check out this thread:

You must read through the whole thread to see what happened!
