I went out with a buddy this morning and dug my first Barber! So cold, but worth it. Also got a 3 ring minie. It was a good day :)

Wow, very nice! Still don't see many Barber quarters pop up, and when there do they are usually pretty smooth, unlike yours. Great find!
Just wondering why the lead gets rusty and scaly? Typically lead gets that nice white oxide coating, but your mini has that rusty hue to it like a musket ball I recently found. Strange..

Thanks! Not sure, it's the first minie I ever dug. I'm was not really into the Civil War stuff, but started reaching the minie tonight. Any info you could provide would be appreciated!

Thank you very much! I was surprised. We were in a field close to other fields that have given up 3 KGs, 2 Large Cents and a 2 cent recently. I wasn't expecting a Barber, but so psyched when I saw it. I wish it was 1 year older lol.

Grats on the barber quarter and the three ringer. This far north of the Mason-Dixon line, there aren't many three ringers to be found. There were no major battles in NJ (nor CT). Idk, most of my muskets do get the reddish oxidation, while the three ringer I got had both the reddish oxidation and the 'efflorescence' type of oxidation. Maybe impurities?

Nice looking coin for sure. Way to brave the cold. Spring will be here soon.
