This is a lpic of my local park where houses used to be. I have marked the houses that used to be there57777

Here is my map after removing the old map. Now I can GPS the spots by the pins. Going to pound this site. Over 30 houses were down there and a sawmill and cat house.

Very nice. Looks like you have a lot of acres to hunt. Could take years! Good luck, hope you find lots of goodies!

In this area so far 3 uyears of hunting. 1 gold ring (10 grams), 2 sliver spoons, 1 pocket watch (not gold), 2 CW buttons, 2 CW bullets, 1 rosie, and tons of other clad and lots of lead. Have hunted lots of area but still seem to find more each time I hunt. When I have no other place to go I can go there to hunt since is all public land. Now I am going to enter GPS coordinates in my IPHONe and hunt the areas based on it. At the river was a Ferry landing for steamboats. THe town had its own paddle wheeler and many others stopped daily in the 1800s to 1900s. I think this whole are could maybe one day find a Gold coin. The thing labled saw was a sawmill. People (cops) think i am probably craze seeing me down there all the time but I just ignore them and live in my world. River part of town was wiped out in 1913 and 1937 Ohio River flood.

Seems like some great items found so far. Now with your new knowledge you can concentrate on those house sites. :thumbsup02:

Very nice research! Was it hard to overlay the map?

Best of luck with your hunts.

How about a tutorial on doing the map overlay?

I will try to develop how I did it. It took a while to figure it out.

Spyglass app for IPHONE is great. It allows U to input coordinates, find spots on map and then u can mark it. Then it will lead to to it with a compass and a pointer and take you right to the spot. Amazing.

1. Find spot on google earth map U want to overlay.
2. Find old map u want to overlay.
3. At top of google earth menu go to Add/image overlay
4. name new project. find your map selecting browse.
5. Now U can use the transparency to make the map overlay and disappear as you want
6. The overlay can be squeezed bigger smaller on your map by going to the edge of teh overlay and pushing it closer or farther away on the map to get the overlay just perfect. Just trial and error. It now takes me about 15 minutes to get it just right

That is great info. Thank you so much for sharing this. Should open new areas that weren't obvious...

Anybody able to get this to work? I also use spyglass app. I put the spots I am going to in there and it leads me right to the exact spot. It only cost 3.99. Works great
