I had a trip to China about 2 weeks. The scenery is beautiful but it is quite boring. The place I went was Henan Province, an old area in China. Personally, I have strong interest in Chinese culture. So I got the idea to do some metal detecting. And a Chinese friend says it is ok to do that.

Here is what I found. Some copper and iron mixed old coins. May be from Song dynasty? Not for sure. The machine is a local brand basic metal detector (http://www.kingdetector.com/md3009ii-hobby-upgraded-gold-detecting-locators-p-6.html). Enough for killing time.

Buy the way, metal detecting in China is not that strict. Many people are just curious.

WOW, I would love to detect in China! My bucket list item would be the old silver or gold chop sticks. There is a really good website for dating Chinese coins. It's easy to find on Google. Thanks for sharing and HH, Dave.

Nice. I didn't have to go to China to find a cash coin, however, to find something closer to 100 BC, I think I'd need to go. I have been to the other side of the world before (hence the user name ). There are some places of the world where detecting is overlooked. Recently there was a discovery in the western part of the country of ancient graves and brass artifacts. You can clean them up and post a few pics and I might be able to tell which coins they are. I can already tell the one on top of the pile was either the Pao-Ch'uan or Pao-yuan mint. The mint started somewhere between 1653 and 1661. You are looking at one of 4 emperors.
