Hi fellow detectorists and hope this note finds you all well. I had the chance to hit some old cart roads and cellar holes over the past week and came away with some more goodies. Boy have the black flies and mosquitoes turned nasty up here recently. At least the temperatures remain tolerably mild. Came away with my typical assortment including my first fatty IH (1863). I was initially puzzled why it rang up so low (since I hadn't dug one to date) even though I've dug quite the number of non-fatty IHs over the last few years. Now I know (copper/nickel alloy). Best find of the day was my largest intact crotal to date (I think #14 now - nuts). :happydance01: Really a beaut though, about 6 inches deep in the middle of the road. Always check those old roads folks, especially 100 yards either side of the cellar hole. Other finds included a dropped musket ball, lead filled bridle rosette, suspender clip, a few buckles, ox-related items and a 1919 wheat. Thanks for looking and HH!

Crotals are special finds in my book! Large ones in good condition, like yours, are rare! Congratulations, John!

Tis a beauty John. They are as rare as hen's teeth for me to find one.

Grats on your first fatty. I think my 1859 wasn't really that low for vdi, but I def know the 1857 FE I dug was way low. Like in the teens VDI. Maybe on edge? The crotal is pretty sweet and I see you kept that ox shoe.

Yeah those "fatty Indians" sound just like a shotgun shell (so do those flying eagles) ! Great "petal-bell" John , sweet sound they make all intact , huh? the sound of a successful hunt my friend ! Well done :notworthy:.

Hey John - I'm so jealous of that crotal bell! It's a beauty (even with the crack).
Thanks for the "shout out" on the video.
I'm ready to go. Schedule is, as always, rather full, but I'd love to come out there and help you detect that road (or anywhere else).
