Ahhhh....check off a bucket lister!!! 1785 Carlos III 2 Reales! This bugger was like 12 inches deep and under a big root (hard to see root in photo, bottom left in photo). I scuffed it a little getting it out from under that root, disappointed I did that but I thought for sure it was trash that deep. New Jersey, Burlington County.

* update - MI mint, Lima Peru

(I did dig a portion of a 2 Reales earlier this year, but it was just 1/3 of a coin, but it had the date, 1821)

Here are the photos of the coin after I cleaned it using a baking soda paste and some soft rubbing. The scuff looks worse now that the coin is cleaned. I think it was caused by me hand digging the dirt out from under that root. It must have been pulled though the soil into view. I think a shovel would have caused a dent or deep scar or maybe just the very edge of the shovel clipped it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to soften that scuff? I'm bummed some :crying01:

Grats on the 2R. I was happy to pick one up a few months ago too. 1773 from Mexico. Idk what you could do about that scuff. Reales aren't super rare finds and there are many on eBay. I am not suggesting to do anything, but there is a possibility of a buffing pad with some very low rpm. Silver is a soft metal.

WTG on the 2R! Gotta love Colonial Spanish silver in the hole! Just leave it as is, over time it will tarnish up & be less noticeable.

I scratched my first Standing Liberty Quarter about 22 years ago and learned my lesson (hopefully). I had a friend on Facebook last year suggest that I lightly clean it with a toothbrush and toothpaste and it made the scratch less prominent.
