I met up with Dave Saturday in Central Illinois for a little door knocking. I got there a little early so I got us a couple of permissions next door to each other while I was waiting. The first house was from 1873 and the second was 1890. Although there was silver found at the first house, all I dug was a 1936 Buff. At the second house I wasn't finding anything but wheats. At one point I said to Dave " I got another wheatie, but it might just be junk because the tone was a little off".
I dug down and saw what looked like a dirty clad quarter, but once it was in my hand I knew it wasn't. It was a crusty 1865 Two-Center. That obviously made my day!! I reswept the hole and heard a very iffy/bouncy Indian signal. I dug down and pulled out an 1867 Indian. Now, that's what I call a spill!!

a couple of houses later, I dug a 1941 Washington. My first silver of the day. Then at the next house I dug a rosie, an old copper wedding band and silver coin from the Phillppines that had me stumped becuase it was stamped "United States of America" on the front. I wasn't aware that the U.S. minted their coins in 1944. Pretty cool!!

Thanks Dave for meeting up with me. It was another great day.
I still can't believe there was no restaurant in that town. LOL

Couple nice hunts, congrats on the silver. Great spill, still waiting for my first 2 cents worth! The Philippines coin is pretty cool, as is the ring. Those hem weights sure do sound good, don't they?

It was another fun day despite the brisk north wind with snow and sleet showers mixed in for extra measure! I am so glad you got the find of the day with that 1860's spill. Frankly I was getting tired of always finding the best stuff! LOL! Now we just need to get your button mojo back. I think another trip to that town is in order (and then the fields we were talking about). Thanks for meeting up with me and HH, Dave.

Incredible coin spill, Don! What a great way to find three cents! And from the 1860s too! It doesn't get much better than that. Probably lost right after the Civil War. :perfect10:

I have found the 10 centavos coins from the Philippines but I've never seen the 20 centavos before. Very cool!

:congrats:

Congrats on another 2 center Don! I heard on a recent post that you got something like 12 permissions that day. Insanity! The lead hem weight is also a nice early relic.
