As usual I went to a nearby park to detect during my lunch today. Decided to wonder in the woods to avoid the drizzle that was falling. Found a clad nickel right away. About 20 minutes later I got a nickel tone deep and scratchy. In my pile I saw it and rubbed it up a bit and was thrilled to see a V nickel. Reswept the hole and I got an even fainter nickel tone and when I redug the hole I found a 1935 Buff. Then 5 feet away I got a shallow nickel tone and found a very dirty nickel and when I gave it a rub it shined right up! This one is a 1942 P War nik.

Dirty:
61421

Rinsed:
61419
61420

I only dug 4 coins and they were all nickels AND all different kinds so in a way this was really a Quadfecta.

Also if you look close there seems to be an S mint mark on the V nickel. It is a 1912 so maybe? I will take it home and put it under my loop and let you know. If it does have an S then it would be a key date...too bad I whacked it but nickels are not worth much when they have been in the ground.

Thanks for looking! Jared

Congrats on the nickel trifecta! Now that's how to spend your lunch hour. :thumbsup01:

The V Nickel definitely has a mint mark. It might be a "D" but I hope it's an "S".

:congrats:

Oh for some reason I thought that there was only the S version. Either way it is a first for me. But it probably is a D.

Congrats on the superfecta! Don't know why, but I don't find many. When I do, the keepers are usually V buckles and rarely a buff at war nickel. Go figure. Think with a little work if you are so inclined, they will clean up nicely. :thumbsup02:

The Vnik is a 1912 D. For some reason I was thinking that the 1912 V nick was just like the 1908 and 09 Indians where if it had a mint mark it would only be an S.
