Found this today in the field not far from where I found the flat button. Looks like it was a pipe made from lead with the stem crudely melted to the bowl. Obviously quite old by the amount of deterioration. Any ideas? Thanks!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171119/1049969465044e820d701a2c5d5520d7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171119/5417d4277f3a81491a98d194ddaec5bd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171119/848c6680c140dd0468a5b3a0dca8b8f0.jpg

Pewter pipes were uncommon but its possible that Native Americans acquired an example through trade

Doing a bit of research on my end, the native Americans in my area used what are called Calumet pipes which are quite different. I did find a photo of one that tools quite similar found at a shipwreck site off Wales. The article notes one other found on a wreck off Bermuda. Of course those are well before the likely timeframe of this piece. But, though rare, lead and pewter pipes are known. It does have a flat bottom which leads me to believe it was meant to stay upright when put down.

Interesting piece. I wonder what kind of brain damage you would get from smoking from a lead pipe bowl?
