I was invited down to Illinois to hunt with Digger Don and Noah on Saturday for my first time door knocking. To make things easier I left Friday morning after work to stay at a nearby hotel instead of driving 4 hours each way the same day. So glad I did since I stopped on the way down to hunt the park where I found my first seated. The place was really pounded, but I did manage one keeper, the best IH I ever found! Very nice patina and has every detail like it was dropped the day it was minted!
Saturday started a bit off track since we had not set a place to meet up and I found I had no cell service in the area. I had to drive a few miles out of town to get in touch with Don to find out where they were. Turns out these guys are so good at door knocking they already had a great old corner house permission which turned out to be the best of the day. Everyone did pretty well. Don was killing it, and Noah had already found the best relic of the day before I arrived.
I started off a bit slow, but eventually started to find some of the good stuff. Lots of wheats, a V nickel, a Merc and a Rosie. Lots of lead too for some reason, including some fishing sinners and a possible pistol ball. I also found what Don was sure was a Chinese coin, though I had my reservations since it looked stamped and had a triangular hole instead of square. A little research once I got home, and I found it is a token handed out at an attraction during the 1939 World's Fair in San Francisco. I also found my second ever flat button, with shank intact. It has the back markings of "Turner Bower & Co." "Best Treble". Unfortunately I haven't been able to find out anything on this company, so if you button guys have any info it would be greatly appreciated.
As for other relics I found what looks like a stamped monogrammed buckle of some sort and also a larger piece that looks almost like a lantern part.
The next few houses didn't pan out as well. One only had clad and produced a single toasty 1899 IH. The final stop where Don found his Seated only gave me a couple bridal rosette and more lead. But all in all, I was thrilled to be out digging, especially in January. I am very grateful for the invite, and for the chance to make new friends who I hope to have many more fruitful hunts with!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/16f386289311ffaf50ad169eab88f309.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/1eb8ef122a3d13cadebc02dc22885d05.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/a9bc65a3190d30fe2058ed9bbb35b49d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/dcabc3fb8f36718b312204b1fca58bf3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/87ae0ab4c00151c2f32b59aefe004d88.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/d222b779cb95bf70731655465075a8b7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/f0bb1addfa04abf6cbf01f5db5d697a2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/6a84918e6b2b9b4abd5f0edeb320ebf8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/0e91911ee99b5bdf86fc2b04b60268d3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/6d23dbbf21503608ac044279d1ea147f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/856457c03e8100bb28dd1f560a37e0a0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/1cdb6fe5e927b7e4e80ed8ce0e0885ea.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180128/6ba6652bcbe3d4acc9e70404b98d0550.jpg

That Indian is excellent condition. Love that deep green patina.
I'm glad you you had a good time yesterday, we couldn't have asked for a nicer day in January, thats for sure!

Now that I see that token cleaned up, I can see that it's not a coin, but still a very nice find.
Congrats on all your good finds, I really like that flat button too. It was nice to get to meet you and get in a hunt together. Next time we can drive up your way and try a little door knocking, maybe even a few old farm houses!
Great job Yesterday!
Don

Thanks! I know there's lots of very old farms all around the Elkhorn area. Should be around the midpoint between us.
