I needed a good hike so I headed to one of my favorite remote sites. Managed a shoe buckle from a rock pile. Chape and tongue were with it too. Tongue was brass but the chape was iron.

Sniffed out a few buttons and some lead too.

My hat! Lost it about 4 months ago. I've had it about 30 years and was happy to get it back.

yes sweet open work shoe buckle frame Jeff :envious: and it looks like it had been repaired at one time with the mismatched chape & tongue !

on another note ... whats with all the clothing articles I've been seeing in the woods lately ?? three gloves (one matching set) and even a laundry basket with a candy striped towel in it :confused::crazy:way out in the woods :dontknow:

Thanks Gents. My hat now smells like musty oak leaves....which is an improvement on what it used to smell like :)

Dan, I can't say I ever came across a laundry basket in the middle of the woods. Gnomes maybe?

I never found an iron chape with brass tongue. Good job sniffing those out in the rocks!
Dan, why does it appear to have been repaired?

Congrats on getting out and for your finds. Surprised that no little critters made a home out of your hat.

Al, fortunately the hat had been protected under snow most of the time ;)
