Hi all,
Just an update: I made it in today for my orientation and presentation training as a volunteer at the Milwaukee Public Museum! I have to complete 80 hours of volunteer work as a prerequisite to becoming a docent. Don't know what area(s) I'll be working or specializing in for those hours yet. But speaking with the volunteer coordinator it came up that there is an opening working as an assistant to the histories curator. Problem being that he's very picky about who he will allow to work in his area and he has a pretty long list of qualifications for a candidate. Good news is it's the same guy I hit it off with during the last museum event, and the coordinator thinks i may have enough knowledge and experience to get in. Yes, the detecting experience was a huge plus!
So anyway, I passed the background check and will be getting my credentials next week. I also found out I can attend the employee meetings and will have all the inside info such as upcoming tours and so on long before anything is announced, and may even be part of the inner workings. Sounds like fun to me! I'll post again if anything newsworthy happens.

Very nice Chris! Sounds like a really interesting opportunity to learn, and to pass on some of your knowledge to others! Best of luck there.

Thanks! Not fully achieved yet though. Have to get the volunteer hours in first, and then complete the year long docent training. But, at least I'm in! :notworthy:

Thanks Dan! Funny thing is that when they were asking about knowledge of colonial and early American artifacts, first thought was you, basically a walking encyclopedia! :notworthy: That's something I can only aspire to!

That is very cool Chris. Something I could see myself enjoying. A buddy of mine does that at a small museum. He says only a small part of what the museum has is on display. A lot really interesting stuff is packed away in the basement. So snoop around in those dark corners when you can. :thumbsup01:
