I met my goal of 50 silvers for the year and got this awesome find! I've seen these before and always wanted one, but I never thought I'd find one... It's a 1934 merc that has been cut out... Whoever made this did a heck of a job around all the letters, I don't know how they got it so precise... I took a before and after pic of what it looked like after cleaning it with a Mr. Clean magic eraser.

Wow, that is fantastic!! I would have been dancing for days upon finding that! :happydance01: I'm glad to see it's not a 1916D though.

Just out of curiosity, what did it sound and read like on the E-Trac?

It was bouncing between 12(3)-44 and 12(3)-45 and was under a tree at my dad's house stuck under two roots. It was up against the thick root and I think that is why it was so discolored. They usually clean up nicer than that too with the eraser, but that was about as good as I could get it without pressing too much to break a letter off.

That's interesting, so it came in reading like a merc. And you found it at your dad's house? So it probably has family value to it as well!

No, my dad has only lived there since 1987, so it wasn't anyone in my family. He lives on the corner of our fairground entrance. His house was built in 1910 and the fairgrounds are 110 yrs old. My dad has no interest in coins or detecting or much of anything that I do. He wouldn't know a merc if it bit him in the butt.

Congrats on that find :clapping: Those were very popular in the 80's. It still read pretty high for a cut out coin. You did a good job on cleaning it too. Goal met, and you have no excuse on forgetting that goal lol A nice piece of art thumbsup01

Awesome!! That is really unique.

Although...... I'm thinking that should bring your total to 49.33 silver coins. rofl

Congrats on hitting 50. That's what my goal for the year is and sadly after 3 hunts I'm still at 35. :ticked:

Wow that's really, REALLY neat!!! :clapping: I love the before and after shots. I bet the person who originally made/wore it was born in 1934...

This summer I found a 1918 wheat laying on top of ground next to a park shelter. It had great luster and obverse was real smooth to the touch, like it had been rubbed by a thumb for many years, probably a 92 year old's lucky penny.
