I had an invite from Hiluxyota (Tom) to meet up on Saturday for a water hunt. It started a bit rough at 7:00AM with on and off heavy rain. But I met up with Tom's friend Mark at the appointed time and started to get the hunt underway. About 45 minutes later Tom showed up and wasn't in the water 5 minutes before making a great find. A bit later we were joined by Chicago digger (Bernie) and Noah of Deep Digger Duo (and Tim!) fame.
It was a hard hit area and probably the toughest water site I've ever hunted. But we had a crew of well seasoned hunters and before long pretty much everyone was on the board with some keepers. Of course Tom and Mark are the river gold pros, so you will have to watch Tom's video for their finds.
Well, it took my a while to figure out the site, but my first find was what looks like a pewter crackerjack toy maybe? Buckle shaped item with a portrait of what appears to be some Diety in the center. Between lots and lots of lead stinkers I also managed a cool cufflink, antique fishing lures, end of a Climax fishing reel, half a cosmetic case, 1930s presidential crackerjack token, a number tag, and a pocket watch loop. As for coins I found lots of clad for some reason, and 2 wheats, the earliest being 1918. But my finds of the day were a 1917 merc and a nice looking 1925 SLQ. Both silvers I hope should clean up nicely.
Overall it was great hunting with this group, and I already miss the camaraderie and ball busting

I guess Tom and Mark hogged all the gold rings again! Sounds like a fun time was had by all. What made it the toughest water spot you've hunted? All the trash? Be sure to post a pic of the silver when it's cleaned up. Best wishes and HH, Dave.

What makes this the toughest spot....lots of moving sand and silt always changing the bottom first of all. So much trash its unreal! Loads of disintegrating aluminum can pieces ringing up from foil to silver. Very mineralized sediments, probably from all the trash, with tons of iron too. Then, almost every good target is underneath all of this debris. Almost every target sounded horrible, much like iron falsing, and could only be heard one direction and then only when directly center of the coil. Most of the time it was junk or a false signal. But once in a while, it pays off in spades. Still hurting today from all the digging!

Congrats you did great! I would like to do some river detecting but the only spot I know of is near down town Detroit and this country boy is not that big of a fan to venture to far into Detroit. That SLQ looks like it was in great condition when it was lost. Hope they clean up for you.

That SLQ was in pretty nice condition when dropped, and so was the Merc. I used the foil method to clean both of them which removed almost all the black goop, but there's a hard layer of bright white silver oxide underneath that wont come off. Now I have 2 white coins!
