Dug this from a property dating around 1860-1880, thought it was a crotal bell until I cleaned it, the top S part is hand made solid brass very sturdy the bottom part I think is copper it’s hollow with a single hole on the bottom and is a two piece item meeting in the middle but I can’t even think what it could be? Your help is appreciated. Thanks for looking.

My guess would be a stopper of some sort like used in a fancy sink? But, I looked for something similar and couldn't find one so I doubt that is it.

Nice find, perhaps baby rattle?

Interesting find! Baby rattle is a good guess. Perhaps an old Christmas ornament. If the ball was copper or brass it would've been shiny gold or copper color. As a suggestion, take some brillo to it. Perhaps there's a design lurking under the crud.
