Labor Day marks the last day of summer for our household. So I usually detect all day and that is what I did yesterday. I journeyed to "Morgan" Park where I have found some ridiculous coins in the past. I have detected it with the Etrac, dEUS and the Equinox 800 and all have had some great finds. This park dates I think to the 1840's so I dig EVERY deep signal no matter the VDI. With the big old coins I have found there there could easily be a gold coin hiding...well in my mind there is anyway.

So I arrived about 7am and my first coin (after about 5 square nails) was a worn 1854 O Seated Quarter with arrows! It came in as a deep 17 on the EQX. I cut the plug and found a lump of iron. Thinking that was it I rescanned the hole and got a 28ish signal. I was hoping for a silver dime but was thrilled to see the Seated Quarter in my pile a couple scoops later. My day was made only 30 minutes into my hunt.

About 2 hours later I came across a 1 way signal that was a 37 to 39. This is a super high VDI for the EQX. I would compare it to a 12-49 on the Etrac. Its a number that we love to see but often its the detector falsing especially if it only hits in one direction. My guess as I cut the plug was it might be a horse shoe. Fortunately I was still careful and cut a big plug just in case. I removed some trash about 5-6 inches deep and I was still getting a response from the pinpointer at the bottom of the hole. The next scoop had it. I found a silver half dollar! Its a Queen Victoria Canadian 50 cent from 1870! I have found a fare amount of Queen Victoria coins but this is a first for me...another bucket list check.

It has been so long since I have found a big silver coin. Digger Don finds them like most of us find wheat cents. For me its been over 3 years since I last found one.

Well I took a lunch break and then hit an old school where I found a bunch of wheats, 2 buffs with a date of 1928 and a crusty 1888 indian.

Things have been kinda crazy the last couple weeks for me! Its been fun and I can only hope you guys can experience these sorts of streaks too.

OH! One last thing...my Crotal Bell display has arrived and I hope to set it up tonight and have pics for your viewing pleasure tomorrow. Its had a long delay. I can explain when I post it.

Thanks for looking....Jared

Both of those coins are amazing dream finds! Thanks for showing photos of them still in the dirt, I love to see that. Very cool that the Seated Quarter has a New Orleans mint mark too.

Congrats on the big Canadian silver as well! I don't recall ever seeing a Canadian Half Dollar as old as that one posted on the forum before. NICE! :clapping:

You are on a hot streak! Keep it going!

Ok Jared, you need to make up your mind. You can blow us away with military buttons or with old big silver.....but you are not allowed to do both. :envious: Congrats on some more very nice finds.

That may be the first Canadian Half I've seen found on the forum. Probably not but can't recall any. Those were some great finds. You are making me consider getting an equinox this winter. Thx for posting WD

What a hot streak you're on Jared! Pulling for you to keep the streak going. I'm still amazed how you pull old silver out of public parks. It's just such a rarity up here in the northeast as nearly all have been pounded to death.

You Sir, are no doubt an excellent detectorist. Those are two great coins you dug. It's been many years since I have had a big silver in a hole and you manage to get a Canadian half dollar.....SWEEEEEET. That seated quarter, another coin not found often.
I have noticed that since your button post in the Relic section, there hasn't been another post. Me thinks you scared everybody off.......
