Hi all,
Got out yesterday with my good friend Dan from Green Mountain Diggers. Had a spot in mind but needed permission. Drove up to the farm and the woman was in her driveway - great to see - no door knocking. Spoke with her about 10 minutes (very nice) and got us permission for a c. 1870s-1920s home site in her cornfield just down the road. Finds were slow but good and included a few buttons, a cow tag (# 1786 - Colonial cow tag?? :lol:) some musket balls and a few other doo-dads including the Victorian era item at top left. Looks like that attached to another piece - perhaps part of a sash buckle or barrette? Dunno. Dan got himself a nice 1870s IH. About 1/2 hour in, I pulled my tiniest silver coin to date (1880 Canadian Vicky 5 center). It's an obverse #2 style and is actually worth a few bucks - not that I sell any of my finds. Toward the end of our time there I dug, what at first seemed like another mid-tone nondescript piece of yellow metal (VDI of 55 on the AT-Pro). But after taking a closer look I'm 90% positive it's my first gold nugget or tooth! :yes: It passes the white vinegar and magnet tests and is heavy for its small size. I've actually ordered a gold test kit that will come next week to confirm. I'd been wanting one of those for awhile, and now this item pushed me to buy. Ha ha. For the last hour we returned to my colonial honey field about 5 minutes down the road to see if we could unearth any remainders. Many of my finds this year have come from this field (26+ coppers, 1/2 Reale, 2 Reales, ~ 200 buttons, etc.), though it is getting sorta thin out there now. I finished out the day there with another button, a musket ball and a decorative little cuff link. Thanks for looking and HH!
