Hey Diggers,
I mentioned previously that I have been detecting a Roman hill that once contained a 4th century fort. The Romans actually made the top half of the hill nearly vertical by removing dirt and rocks. Some of the large stones from the walls are still in place. This is the spot where I found the Roman Goddess head and several coins. Anyway, I saved all the blobs of rust I dug and have now begun electrolysis on them. This one had the most promise although it looked like it might be a giant spike or nail under the rust. What a surprise to find out I have a Roman awl used for making holes in leather! I'm also including a pic of one from a museum for comparison. Thanks for looking and happy hunting! Dave.

That's amazing, Dave! There's no mistaking what is it, the shape is nearly identical. What an incredible piece of history! I bet you'll be running all of your rusted blobs through electrolysis now!

Awesome! I cannot even fathom finding something like this. What are you going to do with it? Is it something to donate to a museum or ? Congrats on the find.
